In the latest version of Vue (Vue xStream 2014) importing cameras in either Nuke or FBX format is just a simple menu click. However in Vue 11 xStream you need to use the VueSynch plugin.
In Maya:
- load both the VueSynch and vuexStream plugins
- set the scene units to meters
- open the Vue prefs Vue11zStream > file > options a window will ask if you want to change the Maya display options, say YES. Then in the general tab set the scale to "manual" with 1 maya unit = 1 meter.
- read FBX of cams into Maya
- in render settings, set start and end frames and file format to name.#.ext
- load VueSynch plugin
- type VueSych in the MEL prompt to launch GUI
- select cameras and hit export as Vue Synchro data (*.dat)
In Vue:
- select main cam and hit the little save file icon above it (the "store camera" button). This will create a duplicate camera.
- With this new camera selected, go to the motion tab (on the top right) and choose "synchronized" from the drop down menu. Follow the prompts to load the synchronized data.
- For some bizarre reason all of the cameras will come in with a scale of 50. This is wrong. Set them all to 1. This will fix the camera positions.
- The focal length is also off by a factor of 10. So a 35mm focal will now be 3mm (fisheye lens with the number rounded off). This needs to be set manually as well.
- In the Render Options, set the aspect ratio to match the one in Maya (in our case, HD 720 is 1280 x 720)
